Adopt A Working Cat
Does your business have a rodent problem? Here is your answer. Adopt one, or maybe even two or three working cats – they will keep your area free of mice and rats.
Brewery cats, barn cats, working cats in warehouses and other areas of business is a growing trend in cat rescue. Here at SAFE Perth we have our own program: Adopt a Working Cat.
We have a number of cats who would love to live in your brewery, barn or warehouse - and get to work.
Working cats cost less than a traditional pest company, do the job better, are environmentally friendly and most of all, they are the cutest addition to a work place. All they ask for in return is shelter, food, water and care. When you give a working cat a job, you’re saving the life of a homeless cat who would otherwise not be suitable for adoption.
“Our working cats have all been feral, so they are not suitable to live in a home,” explains Nicole Taylor from SAFE Perth. “Some are not used to humans, but they all have one thing in common. They are the best pest controllers you can ask for.”
In some countries, like the US, working cats are especially sought after by breweries and distilleries, as these companies stock huge volumes of high quality grains. Rodents love these grains, but the cats keep the unwelcome visitors away. Cats are fantastic hunters that will kill mice, rats, and any other unwanted critters. But perhaps more effectively, cats scare these pests away with their scent.
Cats spread their smell by rubbing up against things. When rodents smell the cats, they stay away. If they don’t, they will be hunted by the cats.
“All our cats have all been vaccinated, desexed and wormed,” says Nicole. “All we ask is that your barn or warehouse is a safe environment for the cats as we don’t want them getting injured or escaping.”
